Shipping Addresses Per Purchase

Plan for purchases or subscriptions that need a shipping destination different from the account default.

2 min read

Some purchases need a shipping destination that differs from the account default. This can happen when one billing account pays for several recipients, branches, departments, or service locations.

Shipping addresses per purchase is the concept of selecting the correct destination for a specific subscription, charge, order, or invoice item instead of relying only on the account address.

When Purchase-Specific Shipping Helps#

Use purchase-specific shipping when:

  • A head office account pays for services at several branches.
  • A customer buys a product or service for a different recipient.
  • A subscription includes delivery to a recurring destination.
  • A one-time charge needs a destination that differs from the billing address.
  • An invoice includes items connected to different service locations.

Account Default vs Purchase Destination#

Address levelBest for
Account addressThe main customer or billing record address.
Account shipping addressReusable delivery destinations for the account.
Subscription shipping addressRecurring plan delivery or service-location details.
Purchase-specific shipping addressA destination chosen for a specific purchase, order, or invoice item.

Current Product Support#

The Account model supports reusable shipping addresses, and the subscription model supports shipping address, method, and amount data.

The product does not yet expose a complete purchase-by-purchase shipping workflow across all charge, line-item, and invoice screens. Treat this article as planning guidance for a feature-completeness area unless your tenant has a custom workflow already configured.

A complete purchase-specific shipping workflow should let staff:

  1. Choose from saved account shipping addresses.
  2. Add a new address during purchase creation.
  3. Attach shipping address, method, and shipping amount to the purchase or subscription.
  4. Show the selected destination on invoice detail.
  5. Preserve the shipping address snapshot after invoicing.
  6. Report revenue and delivery by destination.

Operational Guidance for Today#

Until purchase-specific shipping is fully surfaced, keep shipping information clear at the account or subscription level.

  • Use account shipping addresses for reusable destinations.
  • Use subscription shipping where the recurring plan needs a destination.
  • Add notes or internal process checks where a one-time purchase requires special delivery handling.
  • Avoid assuming that changing the account address will update historical invoice or purchase records.
